I have a passionate belief in human potential and recognise that we all have talents and skills that we often fail to realise. My work is aimed at helping others to reveal these aspects of themselves and apply them to their work and life. My career has evolved from a largely technical function to one which is much more people-focused. This has given me a broad perspective, which I use in my coaching and training.
Having trained as a geophysicist, I started out in petroleum exploration, searching for oil and gas fields in various parts of the world. I worked for BP for eight years as a seismic interpreter and was on a team that discovered one of the UK's largest oil fields to the West of Shetlands.
In 1992, my fascination with human and organisational psychology led me to form Insight Training to offer workshops that focus on business creativity and innovation. Since then I have been privileged to work with a wide range of businesses in such sectors as banking, natural resources, publishing and retailing. This has allowed me to see the common patterns that hinder organisational creativity and the way that these barriers can be dismantled, yielding some extraordinary examples of innovation.
In 1998 I became the Director of a new venture, Nautilus Ltd, offering technical training to a range of international oil companies. This provided me with experience in business start-up, development and people management. The Geoscience Training Alliance has become a major training provider in the oil and gas exploration industry with 23 member companies. I have since left this post to concentrate on personal and management development.
In the last few years I have begun to recognise that our potential as human beings is largely within our own control (even if this is not always apparent!). My training in development psychology has allowed me to gain increased self-awareness and to share this learning with my clients during coaching and training sessions. I have discovered that most of us reveal just a fraction of our true potential and that much can be done to clear our personal blocks and realise our potential.
